A Message From The CMBC President

Coast Mountain Bus Company’s vision is to be
recognized by our customers, employees and the public as the best
transit company in North America. Our mission is to deliver
excellent transit service each day through our team of dedicated
and innovative employees.
Regular surveys of our passengers continue to show service
excellence throughout our organization. In fact, service is our
primary objective: to build loyalty, trust and pride among our
employees, customers, communities and business partners.
To this end, CMBC’s service hours have grown
steadily with the Lower Mainland’s expansion. There
will be more than 280,000 service hours added in 2008 alone.
This growth has brought tremendous environmental and service
benefits to our region, however it wasn’t achieved
without its challenges. There were some technical issues getting
our new trolley fleet on the road and construction of the Canada
Line required some significant rerouting, which is still ongoing
today. However, we maintained our 99% service delivery record in
2007 and our dedicated team continues to work tirelessly to ease
the disruptions. We are sincerely grateful to all of our customers
for your patience.
We are addressing our capacity issues as quickly as we can. We
will introduce 333 new vehicles in 2008 comprising 209 replacement
vehicles for buses that are being retired and 124 new vehicles to
the expanded fleet.
Our Transit Management and Communications System (TMAC) will
roll out in 2008. This digital radio and communications system with
Global Positioning Systems Technology (GPS) will give CMBC the most
modern transit communications system in Canada and we will have the
ability to respond immediately to real time demands in our
system.
Recruiting will also remain a key priority in 2008. While we met
our very ambitious hiring targets in 2007 - made more challenging
because of the very tight labour market - we will be hiring another
650 transit operators and up to 250 support staff in 2008.
We will repeat last year’s very successful CMBC job
fair that fast-tracked many new employee applications.
We once again have been recognized as one of the Top 40
Employers in BC for 2008 and if you are interested in working along
side a team of bright and service-driven people, then take a look
at the many career opportunities we can provide. We are confident
that we offer a favourable employment package including competitive
wages, attractive benefits, specialized training, and are proud to
be recognized as solid contributors to our community through
fundraising and volunteering.
Of course, the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics are fast
approaching and CMBC has been working with the organizing committee
(VANOC) to ensure that transportation is a key contributor to the
success of the Games.
Thank you to our customers who are the reason we do what we do.
Our employees will continue to work diligently to provide you with
the best customer service possible.
Denis Clements,
President & CEO
