Q. Do transit operators belong to a union?
A. Transit operators are represented by the Canadian Auto Workers Union, Local 111.

Q. How many hours can I expect to work?
A. As a Conventional Bus Driver you are guaranteed 37.5 hours per week. You may request additional hours if you sign up to drive for vacationing, sick, or unavailable drivers.

Community Shuttle Drivers start as casual and can work upwards of 30 hours per week. However, depending on your availability you can quickly move into full-time positions with a guaranteed 37.5 hours per week. You may also request additional hours if you sign up to drive for vacationing, sick, or unavailable drivers.

Q. Do I need to have a commercial driver’s license to apply?
A. CMBC does not require applicants to have commercial drivers license in order to apply. If you pass the interview stage of the recruitment process you will be asked to get your class 2 (Conventional Bus) or class 4 (Community Shuttle) learners license. If you are offered a position as a trainee, CMBC is licensed to train, test and issue class 2 and 4 licenses.

Q. What kinds of past driving violations will disqualify me from being considered?
A. Your driving record over the past ten years will be reviewed as part of the application process. You must demonstrate a safe driving history as assessed by Coast Mountain Bus Company Ltd. in order to qualify for any position that involves the operation of a Company vehicle. Even if you are able to meet the minimum requirements, an excessive number of violations, prohibitions, suspensions and/or accidents in the past may exclude you from consideration.

Q. Can I apply even if I have a minor criminal record?
A. We let all applicants know that the Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector search includes but is not limited to the following areas: Offences related to drugs or alcohol; Offences related to physical and or sexual abuse; Offences related to violence or the threat of violence, including physical assault; Offences related to theft or fraud; or any other offences not mentioned above. Applications are assessed to determine if applicants have demonstrated a safe and responsible driving and history, as determined by Coast Mountain Bus Company Ltd.

Q. How long must I wait to reapply if I don’t pass the initial screening process?
A. Waiting periods differ depending on the stage or the recruitment process. CMBC will notify all applicants who are unsuccessful as to the waiting period to reapply.
