In 1961 the Province of British Columbia takes over B.C. Electric
Railway, creating a new Crown corporation called the BC Hydro and
Power Authority. After 19 years, BC
Hydro’s involvement with transit ends and operations
are transferred to the Metro Transit Operating Company, the
operating arm of the Urban Transit Authority (UTA).
On April 1, 1999, responsibility for transit in the Greater
Vancouver region is then transferred from BC Transit to GVTA
TransLink, (Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority). Together
with other TransLink subsidiaries including SkyTrain, West Coast
Express, HandyDART and Albion Ferry, Coast Mountain Bus completes a
fully integrated transit system.
